Five members of the Texas A&M softball team earned All-Big 12 honors as the league office announced the honorees at the annual Big 12 Softball Championship banquet.
Sophomores Jamie Hinshaw and Amanda Scarborough earned first-team honors, while sophomore Megan Gibson, junior Sharonda McDonald and senior Rocky Spencer were named to the league's second team.
Hinshaw, who was an All-Big 12 second team selection as a freshman, is currently in third place in Big 12 play for hits (21). She leads that Aggie batters with a .324 average in 47 games played at third base.
For the second time in as many seasons Scarborough is a first-team All-Big 12 honoree. She has a 2.12 ERA in 145.1 innings on the mound, recording 126 strikeouts. Scarborough is batting .306 with 13 doubles, which has her tied for lead in Big 12 play.
Gibson, who was on last year?â„¢s first-team as a freshman, leads the team in RBI (33) and homeruns (11). She?â„¢s batting .303 with a .647 slugging percentage. In the circle, Gibson is 15-4 with a 2.57 ERA in 125.1 innings of work.
McDonald, who was also an All-Big 12 first-team member in ?â„¢05, is 18-for-20 in stolen bases this season. She tied the NCAA consecutive stolen base recorded (73) earlier this season against Texas Southern. She has a .278 batting average, starting all 47 games for the Aggies in center field.
A&M?â„¢s lone senior, Spencer, who with this award earns her third All-Big 12 accolade, has not committed an error this season while patrolling right field for the Aggies. She?â„¢s batting .242 with 25 RBI.
The All-Big 12 honors are selected by the league?â„¢s head coaches, who were not allowed to vote for their own players.
