Five Aggies Honored on Academic All-Big 12 First-Team

Texas A&M placed five student-athletes on the Academic-All Big 12 first-team, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Those players posting a 3.20+ GPA included Joy Davis, Lisa Gorzycki, Jami Lobpries, Amanda Scarborough and Rocky Spencer.

Davis is junior Recreation, Parks & Tourism major and has played in 31 of the Aggies games this season. She is 9-for-9 in stolen bases and has driven in five runs while playing second base.

Gorzycki is a junior Marketing major in the Mays Business School. She?â„¢s accumulated a 1-3 record in the relief work for the Aggies, throwing 30.2 innings, making one start and striking out 28 opposing batters.

Lobpries is a sophomore General Studies major who has seen playing time in 36 of A&M's contests. She is hitting .364 with 12 RBI and three home runs.

Scarborough, a sophomore General Studies major, has a 2.12 ERA in 145.1 innings on the mound, recording 126 strikeouts. Scarborough is batting .306 with 13 doubles, which has her tied for lead in Big 12 play.

Spencer, is a senior in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. She has not committed an error this season while patrolling right field for the Aggies. She?â„¢s batting .242 with 25 RBI.

To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her team?â„¢s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
