Texas A&M will be the No. 6 seed at the NCAA Men's Golf Championship May 31-June 3 at the Sunriver Resort, the NCAA announced on Monday.
The Aggies are ranked sixth by Golfweek and are coming off third place finished at the NCAA Central Regional and the Big 12 Championship.
The NCAA Men's Golf Committee made a change to the seeding at the national championship this year to use both season-long play and regional finish to group the top teams together so they have the best chance to share similar weather conditions.
After the completion of the regional competition, the top five original
seeds from each of the three regions are seeded together in the top 15 seeded positions for the national championship. The seeding for those 15 positions are based on the finish at the regional championship (using the non-playoff tie-breaker to break any team ties). When two teams have the same finish at different regionals, the Golfstat ranking at time of selection is used to break the tie.
The remaining 15 teams are seeded 16-30. The placement in those spots is based on regional finish.
For example, Oklahoma State and Arizona both finished first in regionals. Oklahoma State will be the No. 1 seed based on its Golfstat ranking of 3. Arizona, which had a ranking of 20, will be seeded second. The other regional winner, Wake Forest, was not one of the top five seeded teams advancing from the East Regional. Therefore, Wake Forest will be seeded in the second group and will occupy the top spot.
