Texas A&M junior center Cody Wallace has been named to the 2006 Rimington Trophy Watch List, the Boomer Esiason Foundation announced this week.
Wallace, from Cuero, Texas, earned All-Big 12 mention last season in his first year as a starter. He is one of eight Big 12 Conference players named to the Rimington watch list.
The 6-4, 296-pound junior started all 11 games for the Aggies in 2005. He helped anchor an offensive line that paved the way for the Aggie offense to rack up 4,865 yards of total offense. The team also rushed for 234.9 yards per game, which was A&M?â„¢s best rushing effort since 1991.
The Rimington Trophy is awarded each year to college football?â„¢s best center as determined by a consensus of the four All-America teams: The Walter Camp Football Foundation, American Football Coaches Association, Football Writers Association of America, and The Sporting News.
Other Big 12 players on the Rimington watch list are Colorado?â„¢s Mark Fenton, Texas Tech?â„¢s Brandon Jones, Nebraska?â„¢s Kurt Mann, Kansas?â„¢ Dave Ochoa, Texas?â„¢ Lyle Sendlein, Missouri?â„¢s Adam Spieker, and Iowa State?â„¢s Scott Stephenson.
The winner will be honored at an awards banquet at the Rococo Theater in Lincoln, Nebraska in January of 2007.
