Texas A&M pitcher/first baseman Megan Gibson has been invited to participate in the USA Softball Women?â„¢s National Team Selection Camp from June 9-11 at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif., the association announced this week.
?It is a tremendous honor for Megan to be invited to try out for the National Team competing in the World University Games,? stated A&M head coach Jo Evans. ?Megan is a terrific athlete and one of the best hitters in the Big 12. It is a compliment to our program to have someone of Megan's caliber representing Texas A&M on a national level.?
Gibson earned her way into the camp after an exceptional sophomore campaign that has seen her register a 17-4 record and a 2.55 ERA in the circle as well as a .311 batting average that includes, a team leading, 12 home runs, a .652 slugging percentage and 37 RBI. She helped lead the Aggies to their fifth consecutive NCAA postseason appearance.
Gibson received NFCA Midwest All-Region second-team honors as a utility player and was named to the All-Big 12 second-team and Big 12 Championship Tournament Team. The native of Spring, Texas also recorded a career high 10 strikeouts against Missouri on April 22. Seven of those 10 k?â„¢s came with runners in scoring position.
The USA Softball National Team Selection Camp will have 40 athletes participating and will see 18 athletes selected to represent USA softball at the World University Games in Taiwan, July 15-23.
