COLLEGE STATION, Texas- Texas A&M?â„¢s Red Bryant and Justin Warren have been named to the preseason All-Big 12 first team according to The Sporting News 2006 National College Football Yearbook. The Aggies have now placed at least two players on the TSN Preseason All-Big 12 first or second team since the formation of the Big 12 Conference in 1996.
Bryant and Warren are both returning starters and serve on Texas A&M Head Coach Dennis Franchione?â„¢s Leadership Council.
Bryant, a junior from Jasper, Texas has 22 career starts at defensive tackle. As a sophomore in 2005, Bryant recorded 28 tackles including 7.5 behind the line. He also registered three quarterback sacks. In 2004 Bryant was given Freshman All-America honors after starting all 12 games for the Aggies. For his career Bryant has 62 stops including six behind the line of scrimmage. Bryant also has to his credit three sacks, three pass break ups and two forced fumbles.
Warren, a senior from Tyler, Texas is entering his fourth season as a starter at linebacker. As a junior in 2005, Warren led the Big 12 with 9.5 tackles per game. On his way to earning first-team All-Big 12 honors he recorded three sacks, three other tackles for loss, broke up three passes and recovered two fumbles. On the season he recorded four double-digit tackle games, including 14 against Oklahoma State and 13 against both Baylor and Iowa State. For his career Warren has a team-best 185 tackles, including nine for a loss of 61 yards. Warren has also forced three fumbles, recovered three more and intercepted a pass that he returned for a touchdown. In 2003, Warren became the first player in Texas A&M history to start a season-opener at linebacker as a true freshman.
