Rich Wieligman, an assistant softball coach at Texas A&M for the last four seasons, has accepted a head coaching position at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Okla., OSU Athletic Director, Mike Holder announced today.
"I hate to see Rich go because he has played such a huge part in the success of our program, but I am also very excited for him to have received this opportunity," commented A&M head coach Jo Evans. "He has excelled in every aspect of his job and I fully expect him to be very successful as a head coach. I wish him the best and look forward to watching his career grow."
While at A&M Wieligman?â„¢s primary responsibility was to work with the hitters. Under his direction, Aggie batters set school records in 2003 in home runs (55), walks (173) and doubles (85). The 2004 squad led the Big 12 in batting average (.281), slugging (.427), runs (81), hits (119), home runs (15) and RBI (65). The 2005 Big 12 Championship team led the nation in batting average (.336) while posting a league leading .320 average in conference play with 100 runs scored on 156 hits.
