Construction continues at the south end zone of Kyle Field as work progresses on the new video board at Texas A&M University.

?Members of the Texas A&M community may have noticed a large crane located in the south end zone of Kyle Field as work continues on the video screen structure,? Jeff Schmahl, Sr. Associate Athletic Director for External Operations, said. ?This will be the second-largest video board in any collegiate facility in the country and among the top five among college and professional stadiums.?

?The traditions and pageantry surrounding Aggie football at Kyle Field are already the best in the country,? Schmahl explained. ?With the new video board we are enhancing the fan?â„¢s experience. Video can be played on the entire 53-by-73 foot surface, but what will separate our board from others is the outstanding content that will be provided by our award-winning 12th Man Productions video staff.?

The new structure housing the video board will stand 110 feet off of the ground. As a point of comparison, the new video board is seven times the size of the old structure at Kyle Field which translates to 3,954 square feet. Compared to other video boards already installed in collegiate stadiums, Arkansas has a 3,210 square-foot board and Ohio State has a 2,700 square-foot board

Funding for this project along with new video displays in Reed Arena and a portable video board were provided by selling Texas A&M?â„¢s multi-media rights to Learfield Communications.

Fans wanting to keep a close eye on the progress can watch via the Texas A&M athletic department website at AggieAthletics.com and clicking on the Kyle Field web cam button.

The new Kyle Field board will debut on Sept. 2 when the Aggies open the 2006 football campaign against The Citadel with kickoff slated for 6 p.m. central.
