The Texas A&M football team had its second practice of the 2006 fall camp with a two and a half hour workout in shorts and helmets on Tuesday. The Aggies started out inside the temporary indoor practice facility before moving to the grass practice fields for the majority of the workout.
Aggie head coach Dennis Franchione was pleased with the way his players responded to practice No. 2.
?Things usually go smoother in practice No. 2,? Franchione said. ?No. 1 always carries the x-factor of excitement and anxiety. No. 2 settles you into more of a rhythm. There?â„¢s still a lot of teaching and it?â„¢s going fast for the freshmen, but it?â„¢s going fine for the older guys.?
The Aggies were one of 11 teams nationally to rush and pass for over 200 yards per game in 2005. After practice, Franchione said he would like the 2006 offense?â„¢s balance to help control the ball better.
?Sometimes we scored so fast last year that we put the defense right back on the field,? Franchione said. ?You don't ever want to turn down points. We were very explosive early in the season and we had a lot of drives less than two minutes. The result of that is the defense ended up playing 90 snaps and we would have only 60 on offense. I'd like to see that balanced, and both sides of the ball have something to do with that. You never turn down an 80-yard touchdown pass, don't get me wrong. But if the balance that we have can balance the number of snaps that both sides play, that would be good.?
The Aggies will return to the practice field at 4:30 on Wednesday.
