Texas A&M freshman-to-be Caroline Gunn (Greensburg, Ind.) won her second career western horsemanship world title at the American Quarter Horse Youth Association (AQHYA) World Championships held this past week at Will Rogers Memorial Coliseum in Ft. Worth.
Gunn, who will join the five-time national champion Texas A&M equestrian team this fall, was placed first on four of the five judges?â„¢ cards. After dropping both her highest and lowest placing, Gunn walked away with the western horsemanship youth world title with a perfect score of 360. Her youth world title is the second in her successful youth showing career. She captured the western horsemanship title in 2004.
Gunn earned top four finishes in two other classes as well. She earned a third place finish in Showmanship at Halter with a score of 249. Gunn was placed among the top five on four of the five judges?â„¢ cards. She also placed fourth in Hunt Seat Equitation after being awarded another score of 249, again placing among the top five on four of the five cards.
The Aggies had two additional signees competing at the youth world show. Freshman-to-be Jenna Pine (Alamo, Calif.) took home a ninth-place finish in Western Pleasure with a score of 87. Pine ranked as high as second on one of the five judges?â„¢ cards.
Another incoming freshman, Tyler Bryson (Scottsdale, Ariz.), had an impressive round in the reining competition despite riding it with a broken stirrup. Bryson placed 48th among the 93 riders in the qualifying rounds despite the equipment failure.
