The Texas A&M football team worked out twice on Thursday and Coach Dennis Franchione left the grass practice field with a smile on his face.
?This was a good day,? Coach Fran said. ?We had a good morning workout in shoulder pads and shorts and came back this evening in shorts and helmets. We worked on different situations like overtime today. We will cover different situations each day.?
When asked about the ?dog days of August? Coach Fran responded, ?As a football coach this is pure football. From sunup to sundown, and a little before and a little after, is totally dedicated to football. I really like our players, they have great chemistry and they are having fun at practice and working hard. We have great leaders. It is hard to single out just one or two because the entire Leadership Council, and plenty of other guys are leading.?
Coach Fran along with Coach Gary Darnell and the players have moved out of the dorm and back into their respective homes and apartments.
?I thought it was a good experience,? Coach Fran said. ?Other than more noise than I am used to and doors slamming, I thought it was a positive. I thought it brought our team closer together because you had guys rooming with people they probably would never get to know.?
The Aggies will work once on Friday before returning to two practices on Saturday. The annual Coach Fran Charities 5K run & Walk is set for Saturday with the start at 8:30 a.m. Those individuals who participate will have the opportunity to stay and watch A&M practice on Kyle Field.
Texas A&M opens the 2006 season at home against The Citadel with a 6 pm kick on Sept. 2.
