The Texas A&M football team had a single workout on Friday as the Aggies continued preparations for the 2006 season.

?It certainly was a grinder, heat-wise,? Aggie head coach Dennis Franchione said. ?We got some good situational work in today. The players did a really good job of hanging in there. After two weeks of practice, the team is probably as fresh as I?™ve seen them at this time of the year.?

Franchione was asked how starting quarterback Stephen McGee has looked this fall camp.

?He?™s the complete package ?- he can pass, run and lead,? Franchione said. ?I?™ve been very pleased with the way he?™s looked so far. His biggest need is to play a game. Practice takes you a certain distance, but at some point you have to play. The last game and a half gave him some positives to draw from, but he needs to get into game situations and make split second decisions.?

The Aggies return to the practice field on Saturday for a pair of workouts -- a scrimmage on Kyle Field at 10:45 a.m. and an evening workout starting at 6:30 p.m. Participants in the fourth annual Coach Fran Charities/Citibank 5k Fun Run & Walk are invited to watch the morning scrimmage.
