Texas A&M senior linebacker Justin Warren has been named to the 2006 Bronko Nagurski Award Watch List the Football Writers Association of America announced.
Warren, from Tyler, Texas, was a first team All Big 12 selection by the Austin American Statesman last season after leading the conference in tackles at 9.5 per game. Last season the 6-3, 242-pound Warren recorded double digit tackles in four games including a season high 14 in a conference win against Oklahoma State.
For his career, Warren has racked up 185 tackles including nine tackles for a loss of 61 yards. Warren also has six sacks, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and an interception that he returned for a touchdown. In 2003, Warren became the first player in Texas A&M history to start a season-opener at linebacker as a true freshman. This season, Warren has been elected by his teammates to serve on Texas A&M head coach Dennis Franchione?™s Leadership Council.
The Bronko Nagurski Award is presented each year by the Charlotte Touchdown Club to the best defensive player in college football as voted on by the Football Writers Association of America. The award was originally established to compliment the Heisman Trophy which previously had never gone to a primarily defensive player.
This years?™ Bronko Nagurski Trophy will be presented on Monday, December 4, 2006 at the Westin Hotel-Charlotte.
