The Texas A&M women?â„¢s basketball team turned in back-to-back 100-point games to improve to 4-0 on its 10-day European Tour with a 108-58 win over Martigny Saturday night.
Playing their fourth game in four nights, the Aggies used a balanced scoring attack against their foreign counterparts with all 11 players getting on the board in the first half of play.
Junior Patrice Reado (7-of-10) and sophomore Takia Starks (6-of-9) each tallied a team-high 14 points and were among seven Aggies to score in double figures. Reado made six of the team?â„¢s 23 steals and junior A?â„¢Quonesia Franklin dished out five of the team?â„¢s 24 assists for the game.
?It was just a good shooting night for us in the first half,? Texas A&M head coach Gary Blair said. ?We had good balance and I thought we showed good teamwork on the court. They (Martigny) hurt us on penetration and scored 58 points. We did some good things with our trapping defenses in the first half to create some easy layups for us. But, you have to give them credit in the second half and defending their home court. It was almost an even half (40-36).?
Sophomore La Toya Micheaux recorded her first double-double of the overseas trip with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while senior Jennifer Wilks and freshman Ashlaa Horton also chipped in 12.
A&M brought down a staggering 52 rebounds including 24 on the offensive end. They shot 54.2 percent from the floor (45-83) and led 68-22 at halftime.
For the second-straight game, the A&M defense held their opponent under 10 points in a quarter ?- nine in the second quarter versus Martigny. The Aggies previously held BBC Troistorrents to only six points in the second quarter in a 102-48 victory Thursday night in Montreux.
?Traveling to Switzerland has been an amazing experience for us,? Blair said. ?In my opinion, it?â„¢s the most beautiful city in the world next to College Station. We look forward to our travels ahead of us, but we will surely miss the beauty of Montreux.?
The Aggies will take the next two days off from competition, before closing out its five-game European Tour with one final contest scheduled against Roquebrune on Aug. 22 in Nice, France.
