The Texas A&M football team had a single workout on Monday as the Aggies continued preparations for the Sept. 2 season-opener against the Citadel at Kyle Field.
?It was pretty good. We had a little bit of a grinder,? Aggie head coach Dennis Franchione said. ?We had a lot of contact and we?â„¢re going to have to continue to play physically. They are being challenged pretty good to show how physical they are. I wasn?â„¢t dissatisfied with it.?
Franchione was asked about the Aggies?â„¢ kicking game after the placekickers missed six field goal tries in Saturday?â„¢s scrimmage.
?That can be fixed,? Franchione said. ?That?â„¢s protection and we really haven?â„¢t had that much live yet. We changed some guys around in there to shore up the middle. That really wasn?â„¢t the kickers?â„¢ fault at all. I think those kickers will be fine. They had three kicks each and they were pretty challenging, so it was just one of those days.?
Franchione announced that true freshman running back Michael Goodson will not redshirt this season. ?He?â„¢s going to play,? Franchione stated.
Franchione has clearly been impressed by Goodson, who was regarded as one of the gems of his 2006 signing class.
?I?â„¢d list Courtney (Lewis) and Jorvorskie (Lane) as the co-starters in a way, because we have the bruiser and we have the flash guy. Michael is a little more like Courtney but he?â„¢s got a little power to him too. He reminds me of (2006 Heisman Trophy winner) Reggie Bush when he runs with the ball a little bit.?
The Aggies return to practice on Tuesday with a pair of workouts.
