Christi Hahn tallied a match-high 16 kills and posted a career-high .667 hitting percentage to lead Texas A&M to a 30-17, 30-21, 30-11 victory against McNeese State tonight in front of 2,297 at G. Rollie White Coliseum.
It was the Aggies?â„¢ second sweep of the day, having defeated Loyola, 30-15, 30-26, 30-17 earlier in the day to give coach Laurie Corbelli her 400th career victory and her 300th victory as head coach of the Aggies.
A&M improves to 7-1 overall and captures the Texas A&M Invitational title with a 2-0 record. Loyola (3-6) and McNeese State (1-5) conclude the tournament Sunday with a 10 a.m. match at G. Rollie White Coliseum.
All 15 Aggie players, including eight freshmen, saw action and contributed in the victory against McNeese. Despite the numerous substitutions, A&M managed to hit .380 while holding McNeese to a -.008 hitting efficiency.
?It?â„¢s always nice to watch when the team really becomes fluid and the way that we practice starts to eally show,? Corbelli said. ?Competition is very different than training, and so many other things come out in an athlete from nervousness to distractions to you name it. So to have all of them on the court tonight -- even if it was just for a short time -- and feel the excitement and the pressure and all the things competition has to offer, and to still have some nice team rhythm and good ball handling and good defense was really nice.?
Lindsey Yon also reached double figures in kills for the Aggies with 11, and she took match-high honors in digs with 10. Kelly Stanton had a career-high three block solos and finished the contest with a match-high six total blocks as the Aggies outblocked the Cowgirls, 10-5.
Junior setter Meghan Kainz had 20 assists in two games, and freshman Jola Kelner came off the bench and added 16 assists in the win.
The match was the final tune-up before the Aggies begin Big 12 Conference play Wednesday against Oklahoma. First serve against the Sooners is at 6:30 p.m. at G. Rollie White Coliseum.
