The No. 7-ranked Texas A&M men's golf team closed with a 22-over-par 306 on Tuesday and finished seventh at the Inverness Intercollegiate at Inverness Golf Club.
Junior Robert Gates led the Aggies, tying for 16th in the individual standings with scores of 76-74-77=227. TCU's Jon McLean claimed the title with a one-over total of 69-72-73=214.
No. 18 Southern California captured the team crown with an 896 total, followed by TCU (899), No. 6 Florida (900), No. 23 Coastal Carolina (901), No. 3 Georgia (904), No. 13 UNLV (906), A&M (309-299-306=914), Kent State (922), Florida State (923), Nebraska (924), Michigan State (929), Illinois (931), Toledo (931), Virginia Tech (932) and New Mexico (953).
A&M junior Trey Todd tied for 25th (83-73-74=230), sophomore Bronson Burgoon tied for 29th (79-77-75=231), freshman Austin Schauer tied for 43rd (79-75-80=234) and sophomore Matt Van Zandt tied for 58th (75-82-82=239).
"Inverness has hosted a bunch of major championships and is a very tough golf course," A&M Coach J.T. Higgins said. "The result of us not playing well on a difficult course speaks for itself. It showed us our weaknesses and gave us a lot to work on when we get back."
