Texas A&M?â„¢s 2006 baseball signing class was ranked No. 11 in the nation by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.

The Aggies welcomed 25 new players to the start of fall camp.

Of the 25 new faces, 13 were junior college transfers and 12 were high school players. In addition, 24 of the 25 newcomers are from the state of Texas.

?The ranking is a testament to the hard work of our staff, particularly assistant coaches Matt Deggs and Jeremy Talbot, volunteer assistant Will Bolt and director of baseball operations Jason Hutchins,? A&M head coach Rob Childress said. ?Our staff worked really hard to put together a versatile class that will make us a much better team this coming year.?

?The class is a solid mix of athletic players with speed, power and baseball instincts,? Childress said. ?We were looking for blue-collar, hard-nosed baseball players and we have a bunch of new guys who fill that role and are athletic.?

The newcomers will challenge a talented pack of 17 returners for immediate playing time.

?We are in the middle of fall workouts and so far things are going well,? Childress said. ?We are playing games every day and giving the players a chance to compete. We are excited about the level of competitiveness we have seen thus far and about the depth we have at all positions.?

The Aggies are currently in their first of four weeks of fall practice. Fall workouts will conclude with the annual Fall World Series on October 12, 13 and 14. Fall practices are open to the public.
