Texas A&M's Martin Piller was four-under-par and just two shots off the lead when second-round play was halted on Friday because of darkness at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate at New Mexico's Championship Golf Course.
The last four holes of the second round will be completed on Saturday morning, followed by the final round.
Piller is in third place individually and trails New Mexico's Charlie Beljan by two strokes and Tulsa's Brett Myers by one. Beljan opened with a five-under 67 on Friday morning and Myers posted a 69. Piller, who opened with a 70, eagled the par-5 fifth hole just before play was stopped.
The Aggies are in fourth place as a team at 13-over and trail the host Lobos (+5) by eight strokes. Tulsa is in second (+7) and BYU is in third (+10).
Colorado, Pepperdine and New Mexico's Silver team are tied for fifth (+14), followed by Texas Tech (+16), UNLV (+18), UTEP (+20), St. Edwards (+22), Denver (+22), New Mexico State (+23), Arizona (+24), Missouri (+24), Hawaii (+28), Nevada (+30), Sam Houston State (+33), Air Force (+39) and Wyoming (+44).
A&M's Trey Todd is tied for 15th (+3), Robert Gates is tied for 32nd (+5), Chris Massoletti is tied for 71st (+9) and John Hurley is tied for 80th (+11). Massoletti was eight-over through 14 holes in the first round, but played the last four holes in four-under, including an eagle on the par-5 ninth.
