Texas A&M junior Martin Piller tied for third place individually and led the Aggies to a fourth-place team finish on Saturday at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate at New Mexico's Championship Golf Course.
Piller's career-best score of three-under 70-71-72=213 was three strokes behind champion Charlie Beljan of host New Mexico, who posted a six-under 67-71-72=210. UNLV's Jarred Texter was second at 72-71-68=211.
The Aggies closed with a two-over 290 for an 878 total, finishing just four shots behind New Mexico, which won with an 874. BYU placed second (875) and Pepperdine was third at (877).
The New Mexico Silver Team finished fifth (880), followed by UNLV (881), Tulsa (882), Texas Tech (882), Colorado (888), Colorado State (890), Arizona (896), UTEP (901), Denver (902), New Mexico State (906), Hawaii (906), Sam Houston State (908), St. Edwards (908), Missouri (911), Nevada (919), Air Force (928) and Wyoming (943).
A&M juniors Trey Todd (73-74-73=220) and Robert Gates (75-73-72=220) tied for 14th (+3), senior Chris Massoletti (76-76-73=225) tied for 38th and freshman John Hurley (76-77-73=226) tied for 48th.
The Aggies are back in action at the PING NCAA Preview Oct. 2-4 in Williamsburg, Va.
