Texas A&M University has been selected by the NCAA Division I Women?™s Soccer Committee to host the 2007 Women?™s College Cup on December 7 and 9.
The 2007 College Cup will mark the second time in three years that A&M has been the host institution, with the University of Portland winning the 2005 NCAA National Championship with a 4-0 victory over UCLA.
"Having the opportunity to host the Women's College Cup is very exciting for everyone involved in the Texas A&M soccer program,? commented A&M head coach G Guerrieri. ?I was very proud of the way Texas A&M hosted the event in 2005. So, this is another chance for us to make a positive impact on our sport and showcase women's soccer in a first class manner."
?We are pleased to have the opportunity to again host the Women?™s College Cup in 2007,? said Bill Byrne, director of athletics at Texas A&M. ?We have had great experiences hosting NCAA championships with men?™s tennis and the Women?™s College Cup in 2005 and look to repeat that success next year. The local community has done an outstanding job of supporting Aggie Athletics and the NCAA competitions we have hosted. Hosting the 2007 College Cup and the 2009 Indoor Track and Field Championships helps achieve our mission of building champions. ?
The 2006 season marks the 25th anniversary of the Division I Women?™s Soccer Championship. The ?™06 College Cup will be held in Cary, N.C. on December 1 and 3 on the campus of North Carolina State University.
