"This is a very tough trip for us," commented A&M head coach G Guerrieri. "Both Colorado and Kansas are very talented and well organized teams. Going into their home venues and earning a positive result will be quite a challenge."
The Aggies enter the match at 8-3-1, 4-0-0 in league play after a pair of home victories last weekend. A&M played host to No. 17 Oklahoma State on Wednesday for the Fox Soccer Channel Game of the Week. Leading the scoring attack for the Aggies was senior Suzzette Devloo netting two goals on the night. Freshman Nicole Ketchum added the insurance goal in the game's 56th minute as A&M defeated OSU 3-1. A&M came out firing on Friday as six different Aggies registered a goal en route to a 6-1 win over Oklahoma.
Colorado improved its record to 7-2-2 on the season, and 1-1-1 in Big 12 play after match-ups against Nebraska and Wyoming last weekend. The Buffaloes drew a 1-1 tie Friday night in Lincoln with Nikki Marshall scoring the equalizer in the game's 68th minute. CU came back Sunday to shutout Wyoming. Jess Quador and Nikki Keller each netted a goal in the 2-0 win over the Cowgirls.
A&M posted a pair of 2-1 wins over the Buffs in 2005, to push its all-time series lead to 13-0-1 against CU. The first victory came in the regular season when the Aggies hosted Colorado in front of 3,364 fans at the Aggie Soccer Stadium. Melissa Garey evened the score at one-all when she scored in the game's 50th minute. Devloo would put it away in the 78th minute when she partnered with goalkeeper Katy Jo Spisak for the game-winner. The next match-up would come just a little over two weeks later when A&M battled Colorado in the championship game of the Big 12 Tournament. Melissa Garey and Suzzette Devloo would again figure into the victory for A&M. Garey got the Aggies on the board first when she found the back of the net in the game's 22nd minute. Seventy-eight minutes and a Colorado goal later, Devloo came up big once more when she netted the game-winner, capturing the Aggies' second consecutive Big 12 tournament title.
Devloo was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week and was a member of the Soccer America Team of the Week for her scoring abilities against then No. 17 Oklahoma State. The Houston, Texas native extended her scoring streak to five goals in four games including the game-winner against then Big 12 leader, Oklahoma State. A&M got on the scoreboard in the seventh minute against OSU when Devloo scored her first goal from six yards out. Eight minutes later Devloo scored her second goal of the game. And two days later against Oklahoma, Devloo netted her third goal of the week and sixth of the season, which marks her personal best.
A&M will travel to Lawrence on Sunday to face Kansas. The game is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Jayhawks Soccer Complex.
