The Texas A&M men?™s and women?™s swimming & diving schedule, which will begin this week, will be packed with plenty of home and intra-state competitions.

Both the Aggie men and women will travel to Nebraska to kick-off the 2006-07 campaign this Friday. The Aggie men and women will both take part in the Big 12 Relays. The following day the men will try to avenge last year?™s loss to Missouri while the women will face off against both Missouri and host Nebraska.

This weekend?™s meets mark the only time the rest of this calendar year that the women?™s team will compete outside of College Station. Following this weekend, the two squads will have two weeks to get ready for a fairly new tradition in A&M swimming & diving: Alumni Weekend. The ladies will face off against Oregon State on Fri, Oct. 27, while the men will take on Notre Dame the following day. Lots of activities are planned for the weekend for fans and former swimmers. Call Tia Buchanan at 979-458-3302 for more information.

The women?™s State Farm Lone Star Showdown will take place much earlier in the season than usual. The women will face Texas on Nov. 3, almost two months earlier than in the recent past.

The week before Thanksgiving, the Aggie men and women will host the newly-renamed Art Adamson Invitational at the Student Rec Center Natatorium. Adamson was the Aggie coach from 1934-1969 and is widely considered the grandfather of swimming in the Bryan-College Station community. A&M will welcome Illinois, LSU, Michigan, Pacific, and SMU to the three-day invitational that always serves to produce the fastest times of the fall.

On Dec. 2, the Aggie ladies will close the fall season with a home dual meet against Rice while the men will do likewise by traveling to Kentucky to face the Wildcats.

After a very brief Christmas break, the men?™s team will begin their winter training session in San Diego while the women will do likewise in Miami. The men will compete at the UCI/Ayres Hotel & Suites Relay Invitational on Jan. 7 towards the end of their training regimen. The women?™s meet has yet to be finalized.

The week after returning from the training trip, the women will face three intrastate rivals within a week. A&M will take on SMU in Dallas on Jan. 13 and North Texas on Jan. 14 in Denton. Five days later, the Aggie women will head south to face the University of Houston.

The ladies will close their dual meet season early this year with a home match-up against LSU on Jan. 20. That meet will also include the men, starting off a busy stretch for them. The A&M men will take on SMU the following Friday, Jan. 26, then head to Austin a day later for their State Farm Lone Star Showdown.

For the second time in three years, Texas A&M will host the Big 12 Swimming & Diving Championships. The conference meet is scheduled for Feb. 14-17 at the Student Rec Center Natatorium in College Station.

The Aggies will host a last-chance qualifying meet the day after the Big 12 Championships to try and qualify any swimmers that are on the cusp of making to the NCAA Championships. Those that fall short of qualifying for the NCAA meet will end their collegiate season at Speedo Sectionals which will be held at the Student Rec Center on Feb. 23-25.

The Aggie divers will look to qualify for the NCAA Championships at the Zone D Diving Championships in Austin over the weekend of Mar. 1-4.

Texas A&M?™s swimming & diving season will culminate at the NCAA Championships in mid-March. Both the Aggie men and women will compete in Minneapolis, Minn., with the women doing so on the weekend of Mar. 8-10 and the men doing likewise on Mar. 15-17.
