Jorvorskie Lane ran for 127 yards and a touchdown and Texas A&M denied No. 19 Missouri its best start in 46 years by beating the Tigers 25-19 on Saturday.
Stephen McGee was 19-for-23 for 183 yards and a touchdown for the Aggies, who beat a ranked opponent at home for the first time in six tries under coach Dennis Franchione.
The Aggies (6-1, 2-1 Big 12) also snapped a three-game losing streak to Big 12 opponents at Kyle Field.
Chase Daniel completed 21 of 29 for 295 yards, including a 38-yard touchdown pass to Will Franklin in the second quarter, for the Tigers (6-1, 2-1).
Missouri, which last started 7-0 in 1960, was allowing only 73 yards rushing per game, but the Aggies ran for 180 and dominated time of possession, 41:30 to 18:30. Freshman Michael Goodson ran for 65 yards and TD for A&M.
The Tigers fumbled four times in the opening half and the first one robbed them of a sure touchdown.
On the game's third play, Daniel found Will Franklin wide open behind the defense, but as Franklin trotted toward the end zone, freshman cornerback Jordan Peterson sneaked up and punched the ball loose. It bounced out of the end zone and after a replay review, officials gave the ball to the Aggies on a touchback.
Chad Schroeder, A&M's leading receiver and a former high school quarterback, threw a 40-yard pass to Kerry Franks to give the Aggies a first-and-goal. The Aggies settled for Layne Neumann's 23-yard field goal, putting the Tigers behind for the first time this season.
Missouri's Jared Perry caught a deflected pass for a 26-yard gain to set up Tony Temple's 5-yard TD run with 3:21 left in the first quarter.
Lane's 1-yard touchdown gave Texas A&M a 10-7 lead late in the first quarter.
The Tigers led 14-10 when Temple fumbled with 7:19 left in the half. McGee threw a short TD pass to fullback Chris Alexander three minutes later to put the Aggies back in front.
Aided by two personal fouls on A&M defensive tackle Kellen Heard, the Tigers drove for Jeff Wolfert's tying 39-yard field goal just before halftime.
A&M got the ball to start the second half, but McGee fumbled a snap and fell on it in the end zone for a Missouri safety that made it 19-17.
McGee went 8-for-8 on A&M's next drive and Goodson scored on a 2-yard run. McGee dived for the 2-point conversion and the Aggies led 25-19.
The Tigers went three-and-out twice and had the ball for only 2:35 of the third quarter. Lane chewed up much of the time with short, punishing runs. He threw a block to help Goodson break an 18-yard run late in the quarter.
Missouri drove to the A&M 4 in the fourth quarter, but the Aggies tackled holder Brad Ekwereku on a fake field-goal try and took over. On the Tigers' last possession, Temple took a pitch from Daniel on fourth down, but was stopped 1 yard shy of a first down with 3:18 to go.
A&M had lost four straight games to ranked opponents, dating to a 36-20 win over then-No. 15 Oklahoma State in October 2004. The Aggies' last win over a ranked opponent at Kyle Field was a 30-26 win over then-top-ranked Oklahoma in November 2002.
Texas A&M Postgame Notes
- The Aggies' 15-play, 74-yard drive that took 8:40 off the clock in the first quarter was a season high for plays and time of possession. (previous highs were 14, three times vs. Texas Tech, and 7:11 vs. Texas Tech).
- The Aggies took 3-0 and 10-7 leads in the first quarter. Missouri had not trailed at any point in 2006 prior to today. Missouri also had a 72-3 point advantage in the first quarter prior to today.
- Stephen McGee's 67-yard completion to Kerry Franks was a career long. His previous long was a 64-yarder to Franks in the Louisiana Tech game.
- Kerry Franks had 115 receiving yards on three catches, which were both season highs. It was the second 100-yard receiving day of his career.
- McGee made his first career catch with a 12-yard reception that came when McGee's pass was batted into the air at the line of scrimmage. With the pass and catch, McGee has now used 16 different receivers this season, which matches a school record.
- The do-it-all McGee also logged his first career punt - a 38-yard quick kick that rolled into the endzone.
- True freshman Mike Goodson had a career-high 15 carries for 65 yards against Missouri. His previous high was nine carries (for 19 yards) vs. Army. It was his second most rushing yards behind last week's 79 yards (8 carries) vs. Kansas.

- A&M quarterback Stephen McGee completed 19-of-23 passes for 183 yards and one touchdown. His .826 accuracy is the best of his career. The A&M record is 19-of-21 (.904) by Gary Kubiak against Arkansas in 1981.

Missouri Postgame Quotes
HEAD COACH GARY PINKEL: (on fake field goal) "We were three-and-out twice and we went down and thought we had them. We thought we were in a good position to go for it and it didn't work. We felt real good about it and we worked on it in practice. It's a great decision if it works. We thought we could get it. We were lucky to have the game tied at the half with the turnovers that we had. It's difficult against a good football team to have those kind of turnovers. You knock yourself out of three drives. Every player could have done something different. Look at a fumble here or this play here, every single player could have done something different so we could win. It doesn't come down to one particular play. I thought we competed hard. I don't think we played our best game. I thought we made a lot of errors. Our kids worked hard and practiced hard, but we did not play our best game. If you are going to win against good people, week in and week out, you have to bring your best game every week."
QUARTERBACK CHASE DANIEL: "Any time you lose, it's frustrating. The good thing about it is the only guys that matter are the 80 guys in the locker room. We just want to go in, get better and get healthy. We had three turnovers. I fumbled once. Those are just dumb mistakes. We have to practice all week and get better. We've been really good with our red zone offense lately. You have to respect Coach Pinkel's decision (on the fake field goal). We'd been practicing it all week and it looked good. (On time of possession battle) We want the ball as much as you can. We had a couple of three-and-outs in the second half, but that's what they do. They run the ball."
