Megan Gibson hit a two-run home run in the top of the third inning to give the Maroon team a 1-0 series lead on Tuesday at the Aggie Softball Complex.
Gibson?â„¢s shot cleared the centerfield fence to score Sharonda McDonald who reached on a one-out, infield single to the left side. McDonald would end the afternoon going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases.
In the bottom half of the inning the White team came within one run when Macie Morrow scored on a throwing error to first.
Maroon extended its lead to 3-1 in the top of the fifth off a double in the centerfield gap by Beverly Rowan that scored Jamie Hinshaw who reached base on a single into left field.
Gibson earned the complete game victory, working all seven innings, giving up just one run on four hits. She struck out seven.
Christina Smith, Jill Weynand and Amanda Scarborough worked in the circle for the White team allowing three runs on six hits.
Game two of the three-game set will be played Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Aggie Softball Complex.
