Hall of Fame Coach Don Haskins, who led UTEP to the 1966 NCAA Championship, will be the guest speaker at the Texas A&M Basketball Coaches Clinic on Saturday at Reed Arena.

The clinic is Friday and Saturday and costs $50 per person. Friday's schedule includes registration at 5:30 p.m., a speaker at 6 p.m., and A&M's team practice from 7-9 p.m.

Saturday's schedule includes a speaker at 9 a.m., A&M's team practice from 10-a.m.-noon, and Haskins' appearance at 1 p.m. Coaches also are invited to stay for a possible evening practice.

Haskins was head coach at Texas Western College (renamed the University of Texas at El Paso in 1967) from 1961 to 1999, including the 1966 season when the Miners won the national title by beating Kentucky. Haskins chose to play an all-black starting lineup, which defeated Kentucky's all-white one, becoming the first team in NCAA history to start five black players

Haskins and his 1966 team were the subject of the hit movie "Glory Road," which was released earlier this year.

Haskins also served as an assistant coach for Iba in the 1972 Summer Olympic Games in Munich. He played three years for Iba at Oklahoma State. Haskins retired with a 719-353 record in 1999 after being elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1997.

Players he coached at UTEP included NBA all-stars Nate Archibald, Tim Hardaway and Antonio Davis. He also was a mentor for several coaches, including A&M head Coach Billy Gillispie, who coached at UTEP from 2002-04.
