A three-run second inning on Wednesday saw the White team even the series at one game apiece with a 4-1 win at the Aggie Softball Complex.

The scoring started early as both teams posted a run in the first inning. For White, Joy Davis reached base on a walk and then advanced to second on a wild pitch before Alex Reynolds doubled to bring Davis home.

Maroon?â„¢s Sharonda McDonald laid down a lead-off bunt and moved to second on a sacrifice by Jamie Hinshaw. Megan Gibson and Holly Ridley both drew walks before Mandy Gegen hit a ball in the infield that easily scored McDonald from third.

In the top half of the second, Bailey Schroeder doubled and Davis earned a base-on-balls before starting pitcher, Amanda Scarborough sent a two-out shot deep into the center field gap for a two-run double. Reynolds followed suit with a single to score Scarborough.

Maroon sent three batters to the plate in the bottom half of the inning with Scarborough coaxing a line-out, a ground-out and a pop-up in foul territory.

Both teams went quietly in the third before the rain set in to bring the game to a close with White ahead, 4-1.

Scarborough struck out two batters in three innings of work, allowing one run on one hit for the White team. For Maroon, Emily Shadow gave up four runs on four hits in three innings and struck out one.

The rubber match of the Maroon & White series will be played Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Aggie Softball Complex.
