"This is another big game against a well prepared and motivated opponent," said A&M head coach G Guerrieri. "We're going to have to play well for a full 90 minutes to get a good result."
The Aggies improved their overall record to 11-3-1, and 7-0-0 in conference after knocking off Nebraska with two second-half goals last weekend. Sophomore Laura Grace Robinson, in her first game back after an injury sidelined her for eight games, put away the game-winning header off a Madison Klovstad corner kick, one of nine A&M would take on the night, giving the Aggies a 1-0 advantage in the 54th minute.
Nineteen minutes later, junior forward Melissa Garey would put the Aggies up 2-0, after netting her fourth goal of the season. A&M held the Huskers to season lows in both shots (4) and corner kicks (1), while the Aggie attack registered 21 shots, 12 on frame.
Iowa State fell to 6-11-0 and 2-5-0 in league play after dropping a pair of matches last weekend at home. The Cyclones outshot Kansas 18-16 on the day but failed find the back of the net, losing 2-0 to the Jayhawks. Sunday saw the same result as the Cyclones outshot Colorado 19-16, but once again were unable to finish their chances, dropping the match 1-0 to the Buffaloes.
Senior forward Suzzette Devloo continues to lead the Big 12 in goals scored during conference play with seven goals in seven games, while teammate Allison Martino holds down the lead in assists with six in seven contests. Behind Devloo in scoring for the Aggies is freshman midfielder Amber Gnatzig who's registered five goals. Senior forward Kat Krambeer has also chipped in six assists on the season.
A&M owns the all-time series against ISU 10-1-1. The only loss the Aggies have suffered came last season when the two teams faced off in front of 3,113 fans at the Aggie Soccer Stadium. With 12 seconds remaining in the match, Iowa State's Stephanie
Kaphingst headed a shot from the close left wing past Aggie goalkeeper Kati Jo Spisak for the 1-0 game-winner.
Gates open at 6:30 p.m. Fans wanting to attend the match can purchase tickets at the gate or online at AggieAthletics.com. Parking is available in lots designated 100g, 100j or 100k.
