Texas A&M All-American forward Ashlee Pistorius recorded her fourth career hat-trick, pacing the 7th-ranked Texas A&M soccer team to a 7-0 victory over the Iowa State Cyclones in front of 3,281 fans at the Aggie Soccer Stadium on Friday.
The Aggies put on an attacking clinic right from the opening whistle, as they took 33 shots at the Cyclone goal, and held ISU to just one shot on goal. The Aggies remain undefeated in the Big 12 standings (8-0-0) and can win their ninth Big 12 Championship with a win on Sunday against the Missouri Tigers.
Pistorius got the Aggie side on the scoreboard in just the game?™s third minute when she redirected a low cross from senior Madison Klovstad. Ten minutes later, Klovstad again served a great ball into the heart of the Cyclones penalty area which senior Suzzette Devloo one-timed to Pistorius in front of goal. The two-time Big 12 scoring leader buried her seven-yard half-volley past a helpless ISU goalkeeper to make the score 2-0.
Amy Berend kept the goal scoring party in motion in the game?™s 31st minute when the central midfielder dribbled past two ISU players and bent a left-footed drive into the goal?™s far corner to make it 3-0.
The Ags extended the lead again just six minutes later when senior Lauren Pfister dribbled at the Cyclone back line and slid a little pass through a gap in the defense to a speeding Kat Krambeer who poked a shot past the onrushing goalkeeper and into the ISU net for a 4-0 halftime advantage.
?This is another nice squad victory for us,? commented A&M head coach G Guerrieri. ?We were able to get all of our players some pretty significant playing time, and never saw a drop off in our performance. Iowa State came out and played hard all night. They really did a great job of battling us all over the field.?
In the second half, A&M made a number of substitutions but never let up their assault on the Cyclone defense, out-shooting them 17-1 in the second half while holding a 14-2 corner kick advantage for the game.
Elizabeth Jones was a constant menace against the Cyclone left flank as she repeatedly beat her marker one-on-one and served dangerous balls into the ISU goalmouth. In the game?™s 55th she was viscously taken down from the side while in the penalty area, and A&M was awarded their first penalty kick of the season, which Pistorius scored, to make the score 5-0.
Six minutes later, Jones again got into the Cyclone penalty area and set up a side-footed goal for first team All-Big 12 forward Melissa Garey to hammer into the net. The Aggies closed out the scoring in the game?™s 79th minute when Lauren Pfister nodded a ball to Suzette Devloo who crushed it into the net, making the final score 7-0.
Pistorius earned State Farm Player of the Game honors with her fourth career hat-trick.
The Aggies have won their last nine games, including the last four by shutouts, and will host Missouri on Sunday at the Aggie Soccer Stadium. A&M has won the past two Big 12 Regular Season Championships and can make it a three-peat with a victory over Mizzou. Sunday?™s game is youth soccer day at the stadium. All kids who wear their soccer jersey to the match will be admitted free of charge. Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m.
