Texas A&M sophomore Bronson Burgoon fired a three-under-par 69 on Wednesday and is tied for seventh place after two rounds of the PGA Tour's First Stage Q-School at Cypresswood Golf Club.
Anthony Rodriguez, the 1995 Southwest Conference player of the year at A&M, is tied for the lead with a 10-under total of 69-65=134. Burgoon is five shots back at 70-69=139.
The four-round tournament continues through Friday. The top 26 players and ties will advance to the Second Stage of the Q-School in mid-November at various sites around the country. The final stage will be Nov. 29-Dec. 4 at PGA West in La Quinta, Calif.
Burgoon is competing as an amateur to retain his college eligibility should he not earn his tour card.
Three other former A&M players are also playing at Cypresswood -- David Schultz (73-68=141, tied for 14th), Marco Gortana (73-70=143, tied for 26th) and Stephen Reed (71-75=146, tied for 43rd).
