Texas A&M sophomore Bronson Burgoon fired a three-under-par 69 on Saturday and tied for 17th place at the PGA Tour's First Stage Q-School at Cypresswood Golf Club.
Burgoon posted a three-under total of 70-69-77-69=285. He advances to the Second Stage of the Q-School, which will be played in mid-November at various sites around the country. The final stage will be Nov. 29-Dec. 4 at PGA West in La Quinta, Calif.
Burgoon is competing as an amateur to retain his college eligibility should he not earn his tour card.
Former A&M All-American Anthony Rodriguez tied for first place with a 13-under score of 69-65-72-69=275. Another former A&M player, David Schultz, also advanced after tying for 10th with scores of 73-68-71-71=283.
Two former A&M golfers did not advance -- Marco Gortana (tied for 35th), and Stephen Reed (tied for 42nd).
