The Texas A&M women?â„¢s basketball team continues to rise in the national polls after climbing up a spot to No. 13 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 Poll. The Aggies remain in the No. 14 spot in the USA TODAY/ESPN Coaches Top 25 Poll released Tuesday.
Once again, the recent AP selection is the highest-ever national ranking for the A&M women. The Aggies (1-0) were previously selected a program-best No. 14 in both polls during the preseason. A&M opened the 2006-07 campaign on Nov. 10 with a 72-48 win over Pepperdine (0-1), a team which advanced to the NCAA Tournament a year ago and is the preseason favorite to capture the West Coast Conference title.
Defending national champion Maryland (2-0) remains No. 1, while Big 12 Conference rival Oklahoma (1-0) is ranked No. 3 in both polls. A&M is the next highest-ranked league school followed by Baylor (2-0) and Texas (1-0) who are ranked No. 16 and No. 25 respectively. Overall, a total of four Aggie opponents are ranked in the national polls including No. 23 Washington (0-0).
Last season, A&M posted a 23-9 overall record and finished No. 20 nationally in the final AP Poll. The Aggies also advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1996.
The nationally-ranked Aggies play host to Mercer (0-1) on Thursday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. at Reed Arena. Tickets can be purchased by calling 1-888-99-AGGIE or online at AggieAthletics.com.
