Senior middle blocker Christi Hahn of Texas A&M has received yet another honor as she was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Women?â„¢s Volleyball First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Hahn, from Leander, Texas, boasts a 4.0 grade-point average while majoring in kinesiology/exercise science and is one of six players across the nation to be named to the first team. In addition, Hahn, a member of the Academic All-America volleyball third team last year, becomes the fourth player in A&M history to be named to the first team, joining Elizabeth Edmiston (1992), Kim Mitchell (1993) and Beth Weynand (2001).
A four-year letterwinner and three-year starter, Hahn started every match and played in every game for the Aggies (12-16, 5-15 Big 12) this season. She led the team and ranks second in the Big 12 with a .373 hitting percentage, the third highest hitting percentage in A&M season annals.
Hahn, whose .333 career hitting percentage ranks second in the all-time A&M records, also led the Aggies with 4.13 points per game and ranked second on the team with 3.35 kills per game for the full season. She posted double figures in kills in 20 matches, including three 20-plus kill performances.
The academic All-America honor is one of many accolades Hahn has received this season. Hahn was named to the All-Big 12 first team earlier this week and was named to the preseason All-Big 12 team prior to the start of the season. Hahn also was named to the all-tournament team in every tournament A&M participated in this season, including MVP honors at the Colorado State Hilton Classic. In addition, Hahn was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team for the second consecutive year and received Academic All-Big 12 Volleyball first-team laurels for the third consecutive year.
Hahn is one of three players representing the Big 12 Conference on the Academic All-America volleyball first, second or third teams. Nebraska?â„¢s Sarah Pavan is a member of the first team and was named the national academic player of the year. Jessica Vander Kooi of Missouri is on the six-member second team.
The Academic All-America Teams program honors male and female student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the highest level on the playing field and in the classroom. Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA, a 2,000-member organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
