Breanna Lewis, a 6-5 middle blocker from Topeka, Kan., has signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball at Texas A&M, Aggie head coach Laurie Corbelli announced.

?We?â„¢ve been looking to get bigger at the net,? Corbelli said, ?and Bre offers us both better height and a stronger presence in the front row. In addition to being a solid blocker, she has good vision of the court and attacks the ball from a high point, which is an immeasurable benefit these days as everyone is getting bigger at the net, jumping higher and hitting harder and faster.?

A four-year standout at Seaman High School in Topeka, Lewis is a two-time selection on the all-city and all-Centennial League teams. In addition, she earned second-team 5A all-state honors as a junior -- 2006 all-state teams have not been announced ?- and was named to PrepVolleyball.com?â„¢s Senior Aces, a list of the nation?â„¢s top 250 high school recruits. Lewis also was named to the 2006 5A All-State Tournament team, capping a season in which she garnered all-tournament honors in every tournament the Vikings competed in this season.

As a senior, Lewis averaged 3.64 kills per game while hitting at a .451 clip. She also registered 86 blocks, including 66 solo blocks.

Lewis also competes for Topeka Juniors and has led her team to four consecutive appearances at the Junior Olympics.

?Bre has shown that she is super competitive and is a good, strong fighter, particularly at the net,? Corbelli said. ?She gets a few more choices in the air because of how high she gets in the air, and her lateral movement allows her to attack all of the areas of the net that we use in our system.

?We?â„¢ve never had a player with her size, and we anticipate that she will quickly learn our system, adjust to this level of play and blossom into a big impact player for the program.?

The Aggies lose only one player from this year?â„¢s squad, All-Big 12 first-team middle blocker and four-year letterwinner Christi Hahn.
