Shindler is the top-rated golfer in the state and is No. 11 nationally in the American Junior Golf Association's Polo Golf Rankings. He earned first-team All-America honors in 2006 by the AJGA.
A&M Coach J.T. Higgins has signed a member of the last three AJGA first-team All-American squads. Bobby Gates made the team in 2004 followed by Bronson Burgoon in 2005.
"Conrad obviously is an exceptional player," A&M Coach J.T. Higgins said. "He has a powerful swing that produces very long drives, but more importantly he is a winner. He has demonstrated the ability to win at the local, state and national levels. He also has been very competitive at the highest levels of amateur golf, which is so impressive for a junior golfer."
Shindler won two AJGA titles in 2006, the Smithfield Junior in Blairsville, Pa., and the Stars of Texas Junior in Austin. He fired a career-best 65 at the Smithfield tournament, finishing with a 54-hole total of 199. He also finished second at the 2006 AJGA PING Invitational in Stillwater, Okla., and has posted three other career top-five finishes.
Shindler captured district titles as a sophomore and junior at Coppell High School, earning team most valuable player honors in 2006. He is a two-time All-American by the Future Collegians World Tour and qualified for the 2006 U.S. Amateur.
"Conrad should be able to compete for playing time immediately, not only because of his talent but because of his tremendous work ethic, attitude and maturity," Higgins said. "He also fits in great with our team. We have worked hard to build a strong chemistry within our family and Conrad is similar to our other players as far as his personality, interests and goals. He is a terrific young man and we are excited about his future at Texas A&M."
