Victor Dubovitsky, the leading scorer for top-ranked Chipola Junior College, has signed a national letter-of-intent to play college basketball at Texas A&M, Head Coach Billy Gillispie said Monday.
"Victor is the perfect addition to our program and we're excited to welcome him aboard," Gillispie said. "When he visited, he fell in love with Texas A&M and with our players. He loved our team chemistry and he has the right mind-set and game to make a major impact."
A native of Moscow, Russia, Dubovitsky (6-7, 210) is averaging 17.9 points this season for Chipola, which is off to a 12-0 start and is the No. 1-ranked junior college team in the country. He had consecutive 30-point performances last week with 32 against Palm Beach and 33 against third-ranked Sante Fe. Coached by Greg Heiar, Dubovitsky has made 48.3 percent from three-point range.
"I think Victor will be an outstanding college player," said Jerry Mullen of Mullen's Roundball Review. "He's very skilled and because of his size has the ability to stretch defenses. He has great shooting range and is a winner from a great junior college program. A&M is very team-oriented and Victor is a really good fit because he can play within a structure and defend. He's a really good player."
"Victor will be really good at A&M," said Mike Mitchell of Midwest Scouting. "He's a big-league shooter, unusually good for his size, and is a good athlete. He can stretch out defenses, which opens it up for the good big players A&M has coming in. Victor is one of the top 10 junior college players in the country."
As a freshman last season at Salt Lake City Community College, Dubovitsky averaged 13.7 points and 4.5 rebounds.
He also considered Cincinnati, Marquette and Indiana State.
Dubovitsky is the fifth player Gillispie has signed in the 2007 recruiting class and the first junior college player.
