Texas A&M soccer players, Ashlee Pistorius, Amy Berend and Kristin Arnold were honored as members of the Soccer Buzz?â„¢s eleventh annual All-America teams, editors of the magazine announced.
Pistorius, who was also honored as one of 11 Soccer America Women?â„¢s College MVP?â„¢s this week, earned Soccer Buzz All-America second team honors as she completed her junior campaign with 15 goals and five assists. In three seasons at A&M, Pistorius already ranks third on the A&M career list in goals (56) and game-winning goals (19); one more tally in each category will move her into a tie for second place.
Berend, a former Soccer Buzz Freshman All-America selection, received fourth team accolades this season. The junior midfielder logged playing time in all 24 of the Aggies?â„¢ matches, starting 23. She scored four goals, including the game-winner in overtime against Kansas, adding five assists as she helped A&M win its third consecutive Big 12 regular season championship.
After registering an impressive 0.90 goals against average in 23 games played, Arnold was selected to the Soccer Buzz Freshman All-America first team. She made 75 saves en route to posting eight solo shutouts, the first being against eventual Women?â„¢s College Cup champion, North Carolina.
With the growth of women's soccer to 310 Division I programs, Soccer Buzz expanded its 2006 national awards to include a fourth team beyond the traditional three All-America teams. The 2006 Freshman All-America list was also expanded to four teams to accommodate a rising talent of freshmen contributing across the country.
