Steve Forbes, an assistant men?™s basketball coach at Texas A&M for the last two seasons, has accepted a similar position on Bruce Pearl?™s staff at the University of Tennessee.
?I?™m forever indebted to Coach (Billy) Gillispie for giving me the opportunity to be a part of something so special,? Forbes said. ?I?™ve been able to grow and develop as a coach under one of the best in the business. I will truly miss the personal relationships I?™ve made with our players and our staff. The past two years have been the most memorable of my coaching career. Moving to Tennessee gives me the opportunity to coach with someone I?™ve personally known and respected for the past 17 years and financially it provides my family with tremendous security.?
Forbes has been a part of coach Billy Gillispie?™s staff at A&M the last two years, helping engineer one of the greatest turnarounds in college basketball history. The Aggies finished 22-9 last season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1980.
?We?™re excited for Steve but we are heartbroken that he won?™t be with us next season,? Gillispie said. ?He?™s done an unbelievable job the last two years. He?™s go good in so many areas and we will definitely miss him. We?™re happy for Steve and his family, but sad for us. He?™s been an integral part of what we?™ve been trying to accomplish and will be hard to replace.?
