
Bryant and Warren Named to Bednarik Award Watch List

Preseason accolades continue to pile up for the Aggies as Maxwell Football Club President, Ron Jaworski, announced today that Red Bryant and Justin Warren were included on the 2006 Bednarik Award Watch List. The Chuck Bednarik Award is given each year to the most outstanding defensive player in college football.
Bryant, a junior defensive tackle from Jasper, Texas, started 10 games for the Aggies last year. The 6-5, 330-pounder recorded 28 tackles last season including 7.5 behind the line. For his career Bryant has 62 tackles, three pass break-ups, a pair of forced fumbles and a blocked kick. This fall will also mark the third straight season that Bryant has served on head coach Dennis Franchione?™s Leadership Council.
Warren, a senior linebacker from Tyler, Texas, is a returning First Team All-Big 12 selection according to the Austin-American Statesman. Last season Warren led the Big 12 with 9.5 tackles per game. In his first three seasons for the Aggies Warren has a team leading 185 tackles including nine for a loss of 41 yards. For his career Warren also has three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and an interception that he returned for a touchdown. Warren is entering his first season serving on Coach Franchione?™s Leadership Council.
Earlier this summer, Bryant and Warren were both named to The Sporting News Preseason All-Big 12 First Team.
The winner of the Bednarik Award will be announced at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show that will be televised by ESPN in December.
