
Wilkinson Earns Silver Medal at Pan Pacific Games

Texas A&M freshman swimmer Julia Wilkinson (Stratford, Ont.) won a silver medal at the 2006 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships held over the last four days at Saanich Commonwealth Place Pool.
Wilkinson won silver by swimming the third leg on Canada?™s 4 x 100-meter freestyle relay team that finished in a time of 3:41.83. The United States team of Amanda Weir, Natalie Coughlin, Kara Lynn Joyce and Lacey Nymeyer grabbed the gold in a new meet record time of 3:35.90.
Individually, Wilkinson qualified for the championship final in the 200-meter individual medley. She finished eighth in 2:17.49.
Wilkinson also qualified for the consolation final in the 200-meter freestyle. She grabbed a third place finish (11th overall) after hitting the wall in 2:01.11. She finished 13th in the prelims of the 100-meter freestyle in 56.27 as well.
Former Texas A&M Big 12 Swimmer of the Year Matt Rose also competed at the Pan Pacific Games for Canada. Rose swam the anchor leg on Canada?™s silver medal winning 4 x 100 meter freestyle relay team and opening leg on their fourth-place 4 x 100 meter medley relay team. Rose?™s top individual finish was a 17th-place effort in the 100-meter freestyle (50.24).
