(AP, Jan. 18, 2006) -- Cartier Martin scored 17 points and forced a critical held ball with 4.2 seconds left, and Kansas State held off Texas A&M's second-half comeback to win 58-54 on Wednesday night. Lance Harris hit three clutch free throws and added 11 points for Kansas State. A&M lost for the fourth time in five games despite 28 points from Acie Law. The Aggies have lost three straight games by a total of seven points. Law scored 22 points in the second half, including a 3-pointer that tied it at 53-53 with 1:03 to go. But he missed one of two free throws with 29 seconds left and Kansas State up 55-53 -- and then missed two 3-point tries in the closing seconds after Harris hit one free throw with 19.4 seconds left to give the Wildcats a 56-54 lead. Joseph Jones went up for a follow shot after Law's last miss, but Martin tied him up and the ball went to Kansas State on the alternate possession.
Winthrop Recap
COLLEGE STATION (AP, Jan. 2, 2007) -- Acie Law had 22 points and eight assists to lead No. 11 Texas A&M to a 71-51 victory over Winthrop on Tuesday night. Antanas Kavaliauskas had 20 points and Josh Carter added 15 points, all on 3-pointers, for the Aggies (12-2). Michael Jenkins led the Eagles (10-4) with 13 points and Taj McCullough had 12. Winthrop hit two 3-pointers in the first three minutes of the game, but the Aggies went on a 17-2 run over the next 6 minutes to take a 21-8 lead. Winthrop took advantage of A&M overplaying the passing lanes with consecutive backdoor baskets as part of a 14-6 run. But Law went on a run of his own over the final 1:20 of the half, hitting a 3-pointer and making three free throws after being fouled with one second left on the shot clock to give Texas A&M a 33-22 halftime lead. The Eagles hit two straight layups to cut the lead to seven in the second half, but the Aggies went on a 22-9 run over the last 11 minutes. They did not allow consecutive baskets by Winthrop in that run.

- Junior Joseph Jones and senior Acie Law IV are on the preseason Wooden and Naismith award watch lists, which each consist of the top 50 players in the country. Law also has been nominated for the Bob Cousy Award as the nation's top point guard. Law and Jones were co-MVPs of the Shelby Metcalf Classic.
- Jones scored 20 points (8-of-8 FG) with 7 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 blocks against Grambling. He tied his career-high with 13 rebounds against top-ranked UCLA and added 11 points for his first double-double of the year. He is the only player in the country making at least 60 percent from the field while shooting 85 percent from the free throw line.
- Law scored 22 points with 8 assists against Winthrop and tied his career-high with 14 assists against Grambling. Law has averaged 18.6 points and 8.7 assists in the last three games.
- Sophomore Josh Carter has twice tied the school record with 8 three-pointers in a game this season (Idaho State and Grambling), one of only two players in the country to make at least eight treys in two games. Carter ranks second in the Big 12 and 10th nationally in three-point accuracy at 53.4 percent.
