Texas A&M junior forward Allison Martino is one of just 26 players who have recently been invited to participate in the 2007 U.S. U21 National Team Camp being held Jan. 13-20 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.
Martino (Draper, Utah) made a career-high 19 starts for the Aggies this season while posting eight assists and registering a goal for a total of 10 points. She was honored as a member of the All-Big 12 second team after leading the league in assists during conference play (6).
"This is an exciting opportunity for A-Mart," said A&M head coach G Guerrieri. "She possesses incredible speed and skill and can really make an impact for the U21 National Team. She's coming off a great junior season with us, where she was a real scary customer to deal with for our opponents. I?â„¢m very proud of her and excited that she's earned this chance to play in the red, white and blue."
Before arriving in Aggieland, Martino was a member of the 2003 Olympic Development Program National Team Pool. In both 2003 and 2002 she was on the ODP Regional team. Martino also participated on the Utah State ODP team from 2001 to 2003 and from 1998-2000 she was coached by A&M assistants Phil and Lori Stephenson on the North Carolina State ODP team.
Former A&M goalkeeper Kati Jo Spisak and junior forward Ashlee Pistorius represented the Aggies by participating on the 2006 U.S. U21 National Team.
The U21s will scrimmage the full Women?â„¢s National Team in two matches at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. (CDT) on Jan. 15 at the Home Depot Center.
