The No. 8-ranked Texas A&M men's basketball team goes for its 10th straight Big 12 victory on Saturday when it battles the Colorado Buffaloes at 6 p.m. (Central) at the Coors Events/Conference Center. The game will be televised in Colorado by Fox Sports Net Rocky Mountain and in Texas by Fox Sports Net Southwest. A&M's game notes:

Last Time vs. Colorado


DALLAS (AP, March 10, 2006) -- Joseph Jones had 21 points and Josh Carter 15, including four of Texas A&M's season-high 12 3-pointers, and the Aggies won in the Big 12 tournament for the first time, beating Colorado 86-53 in the quarterfinals at American Airlines Center. The Aggies have won eight straight games. Colorado was only 18-of-60 shooting and was never in the game after jumping out to a quick 9-2 lead. Jayson Obazuaye and Richard Roby had 12 points each for Colorado. Roby, a sophomore and an All-Big 12 pick, was a season-worst 3-of-18 shooting.The Aggies trailed until Carter's first 3-pointer made it 13-11 with 10:46 left in the first half. They never trailed again and went on to their biggest margin of victory in a postseason game. The Aggies led 38-24 at halftime, then opened the second half with Jones making a layup and then a free throw after being fouled. Colorado never got closer than 14 points after that, and trailed by at least 20 the final 12 minutes after Carter hit another 3-pointer to make it 53-33.


Baylor Recap


WACO, Texas (AP, Jan. 9, 2007) -- Joseph Jones had six points and three rebounds in the stretch that finally put No. 8 Texas A&M ahead to stay, and Acie Law IV drove for consecutive layups late to push the Aggies to their seventh straight victory, 61-51, over Baylor on Tuesday night. Jones made two free throws with 11 1/2 minutes left to tie the game at 41. After Baylor regained the lead on two free throws by Patrick Fields, Jones hit two more free throws and then grabbed a rebound that led to Donald Sloan's driving baseline layup with 10 minutes left. Law finished with 20 points while Jones had 14 points and 12 rebounds. Jones was 2-of-7 from the field, but went 10-of-11 from the line. The Aggies led for good after that, extending the lead to 47-43 when Jones scored on a putback after Law missed a shot. The Aggies are off to their best start since opening 16-2 in 1959-60. Kevin Rogers had 19 points and nine rebounds to lead Baylor. The Bears were within 50-47 with 3 minutes left until Law drove for the consecutive layups, the second after a rebound by Jones.

  • Junior Joseph Jones and senior Acie Law IV are on the preseason Wooden and Naismith award watch lists, which each consist of the top 50 players in the country. Law also has been nominated for the Bob Cousy Award as the nation's top point guard. Law and Jones were co-MVPs of the Shelby Metcalf Classic.
  • Jones leads the Big 12 and ranks 39th nationally in free throw percentage at 87.2 percent. He has made 45-of-48 (.938) in the last 11 games. Jones scored 14 points with 12 rebounds on Tuesday at Baylor.
  • Law has averaged 18.8 points and 6.6 assists in the last five games. He ranks third in the Big 12 and 29th nationally in assists (5.5) and also ranks in the top 11 in scoring (15.6, 11th), field goal accuracy (.508, 7th) and assist/turnover ratio (2.1, 6th).
  • Sophomore Josh Carter has twice tied the school record with 8 three-pointers in a game this season (Idaho State and Grambling), one of only two players in the country to make at least eight treys in two games.
