The 2006 MLS Cup Champion Houston Dynamo will host the Costa Rican side Puntarenas FC on March 1st at 8 p.m. at the Aggie Soccer Stadium as a part of the CONCACAF Champions Cup, Dynamo President and General Manager Oliver Luck announced today.
The CONCACAF Champions Cup is the longest running international club competition in the Central American, North American and Caribbean regions, and has crowned the champion club of the Confederation since its inception in 1962. As MLS Cup Champion, the Houston Dynamo is automatically entered to participate in this event.
In addition to becoming the CONCACAF Champion, the winner will also have the chance to play as the CONCACAF representative against the world's best teams in the 2007 FIFA Club World Cup, while the Champions' Cup runner-up will be one of the three CONCACAF invitees to the 2007 Copa Nissan Sudamericana.
Along with Luck, assistant head coach John Spencer was in attendance. Other guests attending the event included Bryan Mayor Pro Tempore Mark Conlee, College Station Mayor Pro Tempore Ben White, Royce Hickman, President and CEO of the Bryan-College Station Chamber of Commerce and Bill Byrne, Texas A&M University Athletics Director.
