One of the most-contested rivalries for A&M, the Aggies and Mustangs have dualed 61 times since the first meeting in 1934. SMU is A&M's second most-dualed rival behind the Texas Longhorns. The Aggies have won seven of the last 10 matchups with the Mustangs, but SMU won last year's meeting, 124-81, in Dallas.
"Through the years we've had some great dual meets with SMU," Aggie head swimming coach Jay Holmes said. "SMU has a great swimming tradition and it should be a lot of fun. Both teams are gearing up for conference and are swimming fast, so I expect a very hotly contested meet."
The Aggies will be looking to build upon last Saturday's upset of another traditional rival, LSU, who came into the dual ranked No. 24 nationally. A&M notched a 159-141 victory over the Tigers and extended its winning streak over LSU to 10 straight.
"This is the time of the year to swim fast," Holmes said. "Conference and nationals are right around the corner, and our guys did a good job of responding to the challenge. It was a great college dual meet. It was back and forth and the atmosphere was exciting. I thought we grew up a little bit last week."
The SMU dual meet will mark the last home dual meet of the season for the Aggies and for a pair of A&M seniors, Nick Galen and Francisco Picasso, who will be honored prior to the meet.
The 12th Man Team Rewards Program will be in attendance to scan its members. For those not able to attend Saturday's meet, live video streaming will be available for free at www.AggieAthletics.com. Live stats are also scheduled to be available online.
