Texas A&M softball fans will once again be able to listen to select road games live locally on Sports Radio 1150 The Zone, it was announced Wednesday.
The Zone will carry all of the Aggies' Big 12 Conference road games as well as select non-conference match-ups.
In addition to the over-the-air schedule on The Zone, aggieathletics.com plans to broadcast every pitch of the 2007 season free of charge and worldwide through the new Aggies All-Access.
"I am very excited that several of our games will be broadcast on the radio this season," head coach Jo Evans said. "Our program has greatly benefited from the support of the B/CS community and I appreciate that we have a fan base that will have the opportunity to follow our team when we are on the road."
Highlighting the broadcast schedule are three games against defending national champion Arizona and another against perennial power UCLA. Big 12 games set to be aired on 1150 AM include road contests at Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri and Baylor.
Broadcasts will begin 15 minutes prior to the first pitch. The list of Aggie softball games carried on The Zone is subject to change.
Three games from this weekend's season-opening trip to the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz., will be carried on The Zone, beginning with a game against No. 3 UCLA on Saturday. Broadcast time will be 4:15 p.m.
Sports Radio 1150 The Zone, along with its partner station, News/Talk 1620 WTAW, are the flagship stations for Texas A&M Athletics. Football, men's basketball, women's basketball and baseball are all aired on the stations, along with numerous weekly and daily Aggie coaches' shows, including "The Coach Fran Show," featuring head football coach Dennis Franchione; and "The Billy Gillispie Show," featuring the A&M head men's basketball coach.
Matt Simon will handle the play-by-play duties for Aggie softball for the fifth straight season. A&M Director of Softball Operations Stephen Grove will provide commentary on most away broadcasts while Clint Netherland will join the broadcasts at home.
Fans attending Aggie games not broadcast by The Zone will be able to listen to the action on the low end of the FM dial (89.9 FM at the Aggie Softball Complex).
The 2007 softball team is coming off its fifth straight NCAA tournament appearance and has been picked to win the Big 12 Conference by the league's head coaches. A&M is ranked as high as No. 13 in the preseason polls.
The official home of Texas A&M Athletics, aggieathletics.com is in its fifth season of broadcasting A&M softball games worldwide on the internet. Through a new partnership with CSTV, Aggies All-Access brings fans free live and on-demand audio and video content all season long.
