Megan Gibson, a junior pitcher/first baseman on the Texas A&M softball team, was named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player of the Week, the association announced today.

?I feel really honored to be named the NFCA?â„¢s Player of the Week,? said Gibson. ?We constantly work on pressure situations in practice and have worked a lot on how to look for that one pitch we want to hit and foul off what we don?â„¢t want. Everything kind of fell together this weekend in Arizona. I think our entire team played well and I?â„¢m excited about the rest of our season.?

Gibson helped the Aggies to a 5-0 start and a jump to No. 4 in the latest USA Today/NFCA Top 25 Poll after hitting .727 with a pair of home runs, four RBI and six runs scored.

The Spring, Texas native posted a 1.273 slugging percentage as the Aggies knocked off four ranked opponents at the Kajikawa Classic, including three teams ranked in the USA Today/NFCA Preseason Top 25.

One of her two home runs, this weekend, was a walk-off blast that carried the Aggies over previous-No. 1 Arizona. She also drew eight walks on the weekend. Gibson is now just eight home runs shy of passing former catcher Selena Collins for the lead in the Aggie career record book.

?This is a huge credit to Megan and the Texas A&M softball program,? commented A&M head coach Jo Evans. ?Megan had a phenomenal weekend at the Kajikawa Classic. She is certainly deserving of being named the player of the week. The great thing about Megan is the discipline she showed at the plate, in not only knowing when to drive the ball, but when to draw the walk, as well. She handles pressure situations really well and has the ability to come through in the clutch.?

This is the first time Gibson has been honored as the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player of the Week.

The Aggies return to action on Friday in the first round of the 2007 Aggie Classic held at the Aggie Softball Complex. A&M is slated to play Arkansas at 2:30 p.m. followed by a game against Rutgers at 4:45 p.m.
