The Texas A&M equestrian team will compete in a double dual match against both Fresno State and New Mexico State this Saturday and Sunday at the Fresno State Student Horse Center.
In this double dual, the first of its kind for A&M, the Aggies (4-1) will have a rider compete on the same horse as each of the two opposing schools on the same day as opposed to competing against a different school each day. The rider?â„¢s singular score will count for its match against both teams simultaneously.
The Aggies are coming off a fairly dominant 14-6 win over Baylor two weeks ago in Waco. A&M has lost only a single match so far in its first full varsity season, coming out on the short end of a 16-16 draw with rival Oklahoma State last November.
Host Fresno State (2-2) is coming off a 9-3 win over SMU in Dallas on Feb. 4. The Bulldogs also earned a tiebreaker win over TCU in Ft. Worth a day earlier after a riding to an 8-8 draw.
New Mexico State, led by former Texas A&M English coach Pam Bruemmer, comes in with a 1-5 record with its lone victory coming over Fresno State in Las Cruces on Nov. 4. A&M has not faced either school in varsity competition before.
The double dual matches will be held over two days. Saturday?â„¢s riding will begin at 1 p.m. Central while the second day will start at 10 a.m. Central.
