The No. 7-ranked Texas A&M men's golf team opens its spring season Wednesday through Friday at the John Burns Intercollegiate at Leilehua Golf Course.

The tournament will consist of 18 holes each day for a total of 54 holes on the 6,916-yard, par-72 course.

In addition to A&M, the 22-team field includes Arizona, Auburn, Denver, Cal Santa Barbara, UNLV, New Mexico, UTEP, SMU, San Diego State, San Diego, Colorado State, California, San Jose State, Utah, Hawaii-Hilo, Long Beach State, BYU, Hawaii-Manoa, Nevada, Pacific and Fresno State.

Representing A&M will be Bronson Burgoon, Martin Piller, Bobby Gates, Trey Todd and Austin Schauer. Clay Hodge will compete as an individual.

"I think the team is really ready for some competition and some warmer weather," A&M Coach J.T. Higgins said. "We have looked really strong in our preparation and I am anxious to see how we do under fire. This course will require us to go low to have a chance to win, but three of our guys have seen the course before and I think this is about the best team we have ever taken to Hawaii.

"Our goals are high this year but it is important to take it all a step at a time and take care of each event as it comes and get better as the season progresses," Higgins added.
