The Texas A&M men?â„¢s golf team is tied for sixth after shooting a one-under-par 287 after a rainy first round on Wednesday at the John Burns Invitational at Leilehua Golf Course.

The No. 7-ranked Aggies are 10 shots behind first-round leader UNLV, which fired an 11-under 277. Rounding out the top five are BYU (-9, 279), Auburn (-4, 284), Colorado State (-4, 284) and Long Beach State (-4, 284). Tied with the Aggies in sixth are New Mexico, Denver and California.

?It was a disappointing day for us,? Aggie head coach J.T. Higgins said. ?We hit the ball well, but our short game let us down. We did a poor job of chipping and putting. We weren?â„¢t able to convert our birdie chances enough. We shot ourselves in the foot. We?â„¢re fortunate that we still have a lot of golf to play and we have a great opportunity to get ourselves back into it.?

The Aggies were paced by Bronson Burgoon, Martin Piller and Bobby Gates, who all turned in rounds of one-under 71 and are tied for 22nd. Austin Schauder shot a 74 and is tied for 65th and Trey Todd shot a 76 and is tied for 88th.

Long Beach State?â„¢s Michael Drake is the individual leader after carding a seven-under 65. He's followed by BYU's Nick Becker (-6), Frank Wrenn IV of Southern Methodist (-5) and four golfers tied for fourth at four-under-par.
